PBX Call Flow Control

The PBX Call Flow Control object is a feature that allows you to select where you want inbound calls to be sent, based on whether the object is set to active or passive mode.

When active inbound calls will be forwarded to one endpoint of your call flow (for example a ring group containing some users/devices), and when passive, the calls will be sent to an alternative destination.

This feature is particularly useful when users in your PBX work flexible hours and the Time Condition feature can not be applied. By switching to active or passive mode, you can easily direct the flow of calls to users that are available within your call flow, voicemail objects, external numbers and so on.

In this example, we will be setting the Call Flow Control object to toggle between two endpoints already existing inside our demo PBX (in this case a Call Queue and a Ring group).

To begin, open your PBX and locate the Call Control object, then you will need to drag a Call Flow Control object from your PBX toolbox to your PBX call flow screen.

Next you will need to configure the Call Flow Control object, by clicking on the settings icon in the bottom right corner of the object.

The following are the fields and their respective descriptions. 

Name: A description for the Call Flow Control object.

Phone Number: This is a four digit number which when dialed from any handset inside your PBX, toggles the status of the Call Flow Control object from active to passive or vice versa. You can select your preferred number by clicking on the up or down arrow next to the number in the text box.

Enable Email Notification: Enabling this option will allow you to receive email notifications regarding the status of the call flow status. 

Send Notifications to Email: The email address of the mailbox you would like to receive the email notification.

Subject: Enter the subject you would like to appear on the email. This is useful if you are configuring mailbox rules inside your mail client. 

Active: Toggling the switch to active will change the status of the call flow control object from passive to active. 

Passive:  Toggling the switch to passive will change the status of your call flow control object to passive. When set to passive, calls will be directed to another endpoint of your choice.

BLF code (Busy Lamp Field): This allows you to monitor the status of the Call Flow Control object from a BLF of a physical handset. As an example, green if the call flow is active and red if the call flow is passive. 

Message: Enter the message that you would like to appear when the email notification are triggered. Please note you can use the custom variables in the explanation section of the object. 

The next step after you have configured the object is to save your configuration.

After saving your settings, connect the Call Flow Control object to the Queue and Ring Group object, or objects of your choice. In this example, when the call flow is active, calls will be sent to all the numbers in the Call Queue. Conversely, when the object is toggled to passive, calls will be forwarded to the Ring Group.

Finally don't forget to Apply the Configuration when any changes are made to the Call Flow Control or associated objects.
